From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While the coronavirus outbreak means all holidays have been temporarily put on hold, that won’t stop people from ogling over the rustic property online.
The villa is the backdrop for episode eight of the hugely popular TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name.
The property has two bedrooms, four beds, and one bathroom.
In the property description, host Giada states that it has been used in several films and advertisements.
The description describes the villa’s facilities as “modern” but adds that it retains many period furnishings.
There is wifi, heating, cable TV and a large pool overlooking the lush scenery.
The swimming pool features in several memorable shots in Normal People, like when lead characters Marianne and Connell smoke a cigarette together after she has just had a fight with her boyfriend, Jamie.
The villa is located near Rome in Sant’Oreste, Lazio, Italy and has received several glowing reviews with previous visitors praising its rustic feel and contemporary facilities.
The price varies depending on the length of stay and the month, but a week-long stay in July currently costs just €28 (£24) per night given a 30 per cent discount applied to week-long bookings. This bring the total stay to €28 (£202).
On Tuesday, it was revealed that a record-breaking 21.8 million people have tuned in to watch Normal People on BBC iPlayer in its opening week.
