Paul Mescal has shared a happy birthday message for his Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar Jones, describing her as a “legend” and “one of a kind”.

On Sunday 24 May, Edgar Jones, who plays Marianne Sheridan in the hit BBC show, celebrates her 22nd birthday.

To mark the occasion, Mescal, who acts opposite her on the programme as Connell Waldron, shared an Instagram post in her honour.

“Happy birthday to this LEGEND!” he wrote in the caption.

“@daisyedgarjones you are one of a kind. Have the best day ever.”

Mescal also shared a series of photographs, including one of Edgar Jones sat on the doorstep of her character’s university house in Dublin.

In the third image, Edgar Jones is captured looking into the distance while wearing Marianne’s school uniform.

The final picture shows Mescal and Edgar Jones smiling at each other while sitting at a cafe, in a scene from the show’s seventh episode.

Several fans commented underneath Mescal’s Instagram post expressing their admiration for the pair.

“You guys are precious,” one person remarked.

“The most talented duo,” another said, while someone else commented: “You two are bloody awesome.”

Normal People, which is based on the book of the same name by Sally Rooney, received widespread acclaim upon its release on BBC Three in late April, with many praising the chemistry between Mescal and Edgar Jones and the intimate depictions of sex scenes in the series.

One of the more surprising talking points to emerge from the show was the popularity of the silver chain worn by Mescal, prompting the actor to state his belief that the necklace “will always be more popular than I am”.

The chain even received its own hashtag on Twitter, while an Instagram account dedicated to the piece of jewellery currently has 157,000 followers.

Mescal, 24, recently said he is “looking forward to dating” when lockdown ends, stating: “If lockdown ever happens again I’m making sure I’m married.”
