From bringing a gift to playing embarrassing games and entertaining other people’s little ones, there are certain things that go hand-in-hand with attending a baby shower.
But, what you might not expect is to have to pick up some of the bill for the event itself.
Writing on Mumsnet, one woman revealed that her friend, and mother-to-be, was demanding guests do just that.
“My friend is having a baby shower. She’s one of my best friends so there’s no real choice but to attend. Not keen on going at all, but I’ll go for her,” she explained.
“She’s organised it to be in a function room of a social club. She’s pleased because she’ll only have to charge £15 per head.
“I thought she meant that’s all she’d have to pay, but no, that’s what she’s charging the guests to attend to cover the costs.”
She later clarified that the £15 was to go towards the room hire and a buffet but that drinks would have to be paid for separately.
“Am I being unreasonable in thinking this is ridiculous?” she asked.
Despite a couple of comments defending the mother’s actions by highlighting that you would pay to attend a hen do, the majority of people agreed that her demands were “unnecessary.”
“You're paying to attend a party thrown by her? Utterly ridiculous,” one person wrote.
“Why can't she just have it at her home? I take it she's expecting presents too?"
Another added: “My God, some people really are grabby.”
While another simply stated: “She's organising her own baby shower and charging an entry fee? Nah, f*** that.”
But, it isn’t just baby showers causing controversy online.
Recently, one mother revealed that she was left “fuming” after a parent returned a goody bag given to their child at her daughter’s birthday party.
Why? Because the contents were “too generous”.
The woman said in a letter that the gift bag - which contained pens, a notepad, nail varnish, a book, socks, sweets and a piece of birthday cake – couldn’t be accepted and that mother was obviously trying “too hard” to impress.
