From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. Thanks to its crazy 529bhp power output and pumped-up styling, this latest version of Vauxhall’s Maloo pick-up will add considerable excitement to your average builder’s working day. That’s if, at £54,000, any tradesman will actually buy the bonkers truck, which its maker claims is now the UK’s fastest commercial vehicle thanks to a 0-62mph time of just 4.6 seconds.
The muscular upgrades come courtesy of a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 borrowed from the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which is considerably boosted over the previous Maloo’s 425bhp.
There’s a new cooling system and faster-flowing exhaust, too, while the suspension has been upgraded to match, with stiffer springs and dampers.
The braking set-up is similarly enhanced, and the truck gets launch control on manual versions and a limited-slip diff as well.
Beefed-up styling details include bodywork tweaks, fresh 20-inch alloy wheels and luxury leather upholstery.
Yet while it may be aimed at the muscle car crowd, the Maloo’s utilitarian roots haven’t been entirely forgotten; this pick-up can still haul a 540kg load – very quickly…
