Suzuki shows production-ready Ignis compact crossover
It’s just that we don’t know if it’s going to be called the Ignis in Britain yet

There’s been a Suzuki called the Ignis before, and there’s going to be again. It’s just that we don’t know if it’s going to be called the Ignis in Britain yet.
Suzuki unveiled the production-ready compact crossover at the recent Toyota show. There, it was called the iM-4 – but it’s already known that the vehicle will be called the Ignis in Japan.

The name will probably also stick here, but that’s yet to be confirmed. So too is its arrival date on these shores.
Whatever it’s called, and whenever it gets here, the car will be based on a new platform that’s lighter but more rigid than that of the old Ignis. Specs such as the choice of engine are unknown as yet, however the show car was powered by a hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.2-litre petrol unit.

It had four-wheel drive, too, which featured at the top of the old Ignis range and may do so again. To push the point home, Suzuki showed it alongside the chunkier Trail Concept, but there’s no suggestion that this could herald a choice of body shapes a la VW Tiguan when production begins.
