It echoes its Boxster sister car’s facelifed styling, headed up by larger air intakes at the front and on the rear wheelarches, while its already excellent dynamics are improved with boosted braking and suspension performance.
Of course, the main update occurs under the Cayman’s bonnet, which now houses a choice of torquey 2.0 and 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbos in place of Porsche’s customary flat-six units.
As standard, the new engines are teamed with a six-speed manual gearbox, and put out 296bhp and 345bhp. This results in 0-62mph sprint performance of 4.7 and 4.2 seconds respectively. Further upgrades can be found inside the cabin, with updated multimedia and smartphone-connectivity systems.
All this, and yet the price rises by less than £200, at £39,878 for the 2.0-litre Cayman and £48,834 for the 2.5-litre Cayman S. That’s darn good value, although even judicious use of the options list could soon see the cost rocket. Available extras include a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, active suspension and the Sport Chrono pack.
