From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The new soft-top Cabriolet follows on from the recently launched S63 Coupe. It shares the same uprated engine, a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V12 with 621bhp and 737lb ft of torque. This powers through a seven-speed auto transmission with three modes.

Surprisingly, given the Cabriolet is 175kg heavier than the Coupe, the figures are claimed to be the same at 4.1sec for the 0-62mph squirt, although the Cabriolet can also add 17 seconds to that – the time it takes for the roof to automatically raise itself.

That roof is also the cause of the extra weight as the chassis needed extra bracing with the roof gone.

Outward signs that this is the flagship ragtop are relatively restrained, with more chrome, bespoke wheels, four trapezoid-shaped exhausts, and of course some badges that scream very quietly.

For anyone who suffers from follical concerns, there is an Aircap wind protection deflector inside, as well as an Airscarf heater in the backrests as well as a whole slew of smart kit that is carried over from the Coupe.

Prices haven’t been announced but since the Coupe costs £183,075, it’s likely that the Cabriolet will be a more hair-raising £200,000 or so when it comes to the UK market next April.
