In a sign that the EV price war isn't just confined to Japan, Mitsubishi last week slashed the price of its iMiEV electric vehicle in the UK.
The new price of £28,990 (€35,480) before incentives will bring the vehicle into direct competition with the Nissan LEAF, which is priced at £28,350 (€34,697).
The iMiEV's original price was £38,669 (€47,327) and the reduction is similar to that announced by Mitsubishi in Japan back in June.
With the UK government incentives (up to £5,000/€6,120), the price of the iMiEV will drop to just under £24,000 (€29,373).
Mitsubishi says that the vehicle, which is already on roads in the UK and Japan as part of a trial scheme, will reach a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h) and has a range of 90 miles (145 km).
Delivery is expected to commence in the UK from January 1, 2011.
