Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cadillac has released preview pictures of the CTS-V Coupe, hot on the heels of the new CTS Coupe unveiled at Los Angeles. The V-series CTS features a 556-hp supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine, dwarfing the 304 hp 3.6L V-6 engine offered in the standard model. It is the most powerful engine in Cadillac's history, and will propel the CTS-V from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The car is available in either manual or automatic transmission.
"The CTS-V Coupe marries our most potent and sophisticated technology with our most dramatic production design," said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager. "This combination of visual and technical attributes is designed to create a very compelling choice for luxury sports car consumers."
Fellow GM brand Buick will also unveil the new Regal GS, a high-tech, high performance version of the Regal sedan. The model, like its sister, is based on the Opel Insignia, but includes a 255 hp turbocharged 2-litre engine. BMW, meanwhile, will stage the global debut of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, a high-power version of the Z4 roadster.
Some 30 global debuts are expected at the show, one of the most influential in the automotive calendar. Although this year's Los Angeles show has already hosted several high-profile debuts, organizers of NAIAS promise that there is more in store when the event kicks off on January 11.
