Miley Cyrus has spoken out about consent and victim-blaming after being groped and kissed by a fan in Spain.
On Sunday, a clip of the incident was shared on Twitter, where the singer can be seen walking with husband Liam Hemsworth in Barcelona when a fan reaches out and grabs her hair, before pulling her in and kissing her.
The video then shows Hemsworth put his arm around Cyrus and pull her away from the crowd while security steps in to intervene.
Cyrus responded to the incident on Tuesday, taking to social media to condemn the fan’s behaviour.
Alongside video of the incident, as well as footage of The Talk hosts discussing the encounter, she wrote: “She can be wearing what she wants. She can be a virgin. She can be sleeping with five different people.
“She can be with her husband. She can be with her girlfriend. She can be naked."
“She CAN’T be grabbed without her consent.”
The 26-year-old concluded the powerful reminder about consent with the hashtag #DontF***WithMyFreedom, a lyric from her new song “Mother’s Daughter”.
On Instagram, Cyrus reiterated the message “Don’t f*** with my freedom” and added #StillNotAskingForIt on a screenshot of Facebook comments from trolls, who blamed the star for the encounter, with one person asking: “You wanted to be ‘sexy,’ what did you expect?”
