From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Duchess of Sussex has been named a “top social riser” in a list compiled by Tatler magazine.

Featured in the October issue of the publication, the duchess was placed in the number one spot on the “A-list ascents” list above House of Commons speaker John Bercow MP, who came in second, and model Jerry Hall, who came in third.

Explaining why Meghan reached “the pinnacle of the greasy pole”, Tatler stated that the “Ralph and Russo-clad beacon of change” has played an important role in dragging “the royal family into the 21st century”.

Other notable individuals who were featured on the list included Keith Tyson, a Turner Prize-winning artist and husband of Elisabeth Murdoch, and Sharon White, the new chairwoman of John Lewis.

Former professional footballer Jamie Redknapp was also included on the list, as was Robbie Williams’ six-year-old daughter Teddy, who was a flower girl at Princess Eugenie’s wedding.

On Saturday, the duchess was photographed at the US Open, having made her way to Flushing Meadows to support her close friend, Serena Williams, in the women’s singles final.

The royal sat in the players’ box at Arthur Ashe Stadium alongside American Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Alexis Ohanian, Williams’ husband and co-founder of Reddit.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a casual ensemble for the occasion, dressing in a denim wrap dress by US high street brand J-Crew.

The 38-year-old was also spotted wearing a dog tag necklace embossed with the initials “H” and “A”, in reference to her husband, Prince Harry, and their baby son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed details of their upcoming royal tour to Africa.

In a post shared on their official Instagram page, the royal couple announced that the aim of the tour will be to focus on “community, grassroots leadership, women’s and girl’s rights, mental health, HIV/AIDS and the environment”.

During their trip, the duchess will meet with several local organisations in order to “promote women and girls’ health and education, entrepreneurship and leadership”.

She and the duke will also meet with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the anti-apartheid and human rights activist.

In July, the royal couple were included in Time magazine’s list of the 25 most influential people on the Internet.
