Max Ehrich has accused Demi Lovato of using him in a “calculated PR stunt” after the couple ended their engagement of two months.
On Thursday, the 29-year-old aired his feelings over the breakup on Instagram Live, where he referred to the ending of their relationship as “the most bizarre experience”.
“It’s just the craziest thing. This is the most bizarre experience that I hope no one ever has to experience, ever. Because no person deserves to feel this way,” Ehrich said during his Instagram Live, which has been shared on Twitter.
The Young and the Restless actor then compared his situation to Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s, who were briefly engaged in 2018, before telling his followers that he believes he is the subject of a “PR stunt” by Lovato.
“Pete Davidson didn’t deserve to feel this way. Do you think he wrote that text to Mac Miller? Ha. Open your eyes,” he said. “It's a calculated PR stunt, but my team is going to hate me for saying any of this.”
During the Instagram Live, the actor also appeared to reference Lovato’s new song, Still Have Me, which she released days after their breakup.
“I was in love, the whole world should freakin’ know it. I thought I found the real deal now I found out that I was used,” Ehrich said. “But I hope the song is number one because, you know what, if that’s what someone wants in a material world, here you go, you have it, I hope this makes you happy. Enjoy.”
Appearing to speak directly to Lovato, Ehrich continued: “You just lost someone who loved you fully, completely, infinitely, for everything.”
The couple ended their relationship in September after announcing they were engaged in July.
At the time of their engagement, Lovato had captioned Instagram photos from the proposal: “I knew I loved you the moment I met you. It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too. You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself.
“I’m honoured to accept your hand in marriage. I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!!!!”
While Lovato has not commented publicly on the separation, she captioned her new song: “Music is always there for me.”
On Friday, after videos from his Instagram Live circulated, Ehrich shared a statement on Instagram where he condemned the “manipulated media” and said he was the victim of cyber-bullying.
He wrote: “I'm truly not sure how much more of the manipulated media & cyber bullying me as [a] human being can handle before it's too much to breathe.
“I ask you kindly to please stop and see a hurting human being behind this phone screen who just publicly had his heart shattered."
He concluded the note explaining that he was “signing off”.
