Maren Morris has revealed she will no longer post photos of her son’s face on social media after she was targeted by parent-shamers.

On Wednesday, the country singer appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she discussed parenting and her decision to keep her four-month-old son Hayes Andrew private after a post showing her holding the baby on a pool float in a lake sparked backlash.

The photo, shared last month, prompted widespread criticism from mum-shamers who questioned why the baby was not wearing a life jacket.

At the time, Morris’s husband Ryan Hurd came to her defence, explaining on Twitter that the My Church singer is a “great mom” and “my kid was not unsafe on a float in one foot of water being held by an adult with five people watching so she could get a picture.”

In response to a question about the criticism, Morris told Cohen: “I don’t think I’m going to show his face in photos on social media anymore.”

“I’m going to be a little more private about him. It’s been so fun sharing photos of him but I feel like, you know, I can take someone saying my music sucks or I'm ruining country music, but for some reason, the mother card, I can't emotionally handle right now,” Morris said. “So I was like: 'I'm just gonna protect myself and him from it.'

“But I will say, he was completely safe," Morris continued. "We were tied to a dock, I was in a foot of water on a float to get a photo."

During the interview, the mother-of-one also expressed her belief that mothers who shame other mothers are insecure in their own parenting, telling Cohen: “It probably comes from just a deep insecurity in your own motherhood that you have to criticise someone else.

"Especially someone that’s brand new at this. And we all feel like we suck in the beginning anyway," she added.

The 30-year-old’s decision to no longer share photos of her son’s face comes after she told a fan on Twitter earlier this month that it was something she was considering due to all the “criticisms of my motherhood”.

“Sucks but it’s kind of where I’m at,” she said at the time.
