From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

When you don’t identify with your birth gender, the process of finally resembling on the outside how you feel on the inside is life-changing.

Transitioning has a huge effect on a person’s happiness, and this is clearly visible in one transgender woman’s selfie series.

Under the username Selgal, a woman has posted a series of selfies taken over the course of 18 months whilst taking HRT (hormone replacement therapy).

A student from Ohio, Selgal began the transition aged 18, and the images provide a fascinating picture of how someone’s appearance can change due to HRT.

For trans women, HRT tends to limit facial hair growth, reduce muscle mass, increase breast size, reduce penis and testicle size and distribute fat to the hips.

Scroll through the transformation below.

“It’s never too late to change who you are,” Selgal wrote. “Happiness is real, you just have to be willing to risk anything to find it.”
