People whose partners have been unfaithful to them have shared their experiences of taking back the "cheater".

From re-building the relationship to discovering one's partner is a serial non-monogamist, Reddit users shared their experiences of being let down by their other half.

They answered the question: "Redditors who have given their significant others another chance after getting cheated on: How's your relationship now?"

1. 'I am filing a lawsuit against her'

After taking her back, one Reddit user said his partner cheated on him more and eventually left him for his best friend.

"Then she cheated on him a few times - they are still together - I guess we're more alike than we thought," said the commentator.

Having "friend dumped" her ex after he suggested she might like to see her son, the Reddit user confessed he was building a case against her for a "hefty lawsuit".

2. 'It ended after he tried to cheat on me with his ex-girlfriend'

"He tried to cheat on me with his ex, but she turned him down," the user said.

"I found out when I found texts from her basically telling him he needed to sort himself out and stop messing me around."

This user concluded that her ex's ex-girlfriend, whom she never met, deserved a "sisterhood solidarity type award".

3. 'It turned me into a jealous maniac'

One Reddit user explained how the loss of trust "never goes away".

"I wanted to work it out, but I just never got it right in my mind, and turned into a jealous douche. It was awful and she left."

4. 'My husband and I are still together, but I feel unable to re-connect with him'

One Reddit user said her other half had been "present and open" ever since admitting cheating on her.

However, she felt unable to trust him again.

"Every time I try, it just feels like there is a physical block in my chest stopping me from re-connecting," she said.

"Self-protection, I guess."

5. 'I took him back and we are now better than ever'

Several Reddit users said their partners had being extremely drunk when they had one-night stands - before issuing full confessions.

Their turnaround involved the cheating partner working to make themselves better people, and the couple working on their communication.

"Six years later we are one thousand times happier than we were before he cheated. It brought us closer," said one user.

Another said her partner had given up drinking as a result and they were in a better relationship now.

6. 'I forgave him, and three years later discovered he'd cheated with tens of women'

One Reddit user was relaxed about a partner kissing another girl at New Year. She had her suspicions in the years to come but was never certain.

"Then cut to three years later, I find out about the thirty other women he cheated on me with."
