Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Is it all down to cheekbones and jawlines? Strong pouts and even stronger pecs? Or is a witty bio the way to love at first swipe?
You might think that attraction is subjective, but in a world where matches are made as a result of snap-second impulses, there are certain traits that boast ubiquitous appealing, as Tinder’s latest most right-swiped user list reveals.
Rounding up its 30 most successful daters in the UK with Cosmopolitan, Tinder has revealed what it takes to be a super-swiper and join the dating app elite.
While last year’s list was almost entirely comprised of millennial users, three of whom were models, this year’s line-up is slightly more diversified, at least in terms of career choices - everyone featured is between the ages of 18 and 34.
There’s a cabin-crew manager from London, a hospital dispatcher from Exeter... there’s even an Irish dancer from Tipperary.
Surprisingly, nine of those featured on the list are still in full-time education, studying at universities across the UK, leading one to believe that higher education and dating app success could in fact be inextricably linked - clearly they’re teaching them something right.
