Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split after just eight months of marriage.

The singer’s representative issued a statement confirming the news on Saturday, urging fans to “respect their process”.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” the representative told PEOPLE.

“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

The couple had 16 pets together, including seven dogs, three cats and two pigs.

Cyrus, 26, and Hemsworth, 29, tied the knot in December 2018 after dating on and off for almost a decade, having met in 2010 on the set of romantic drama The Last Song.

In July, Cyrus described her relationship with Hemsworth as “unique” and “modern”.

“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer told Elle.

“And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.”

Speculations regarding the state of the couple’s relationship began earlier this week after Cyrus was seen posing in a photograph on Instagram without her wedding ring.
