Love Island viewers have condemned contestant Joe Garratt’s behaviour, describing it as heavily “manipulative”.

During the first episode of the ITV reality television show, sandwich salesman Joe partnered up with surfer Lucie Donlan.

Shortly afterwards, latecomer Tommy Fury sparked a rift in the villa when he decided to recouple with Lucie, leaving Joe without a partner and notably disgruntled.

Despite Lucie having no choice but to go on a date with professional boxer Tommy, as per the rules of the show, Joe later told her that he didn’t feel he could “trust" her anymore, regardless of the fact that they'd only been on Love Island for a couple of days.

Several Twitter users expressed their objection to Joe’s brash behaviour, with some saying he’s exhibiting clear relationship “red flags”.

“Is no one else seeing major red flags from Joe rn? Isn’t this like, first class manipulation?” one person tweeted.

“Joe is giving major red flag vibes. It's day 2 chill out hunny bun,” another wrote.

Some Love Island viewers compared Joe to the protagonist of Netflix show You, a character who appears charming towards women but is actually a stalker.

“I thought Joe’s behaviour reminded me of someone but I couldn’t put my finger on it until now... Joe Goldberg from the Netflix show ‘You’. Run Lucie while you still can,” one person tweeted.

“Joe is ‘Joe Goldberg’ from ‘You’, the possessiveness is not okay,” another added.

Ofcom has received several complaints regarding Joe’s behaviour towards Lucie.

According to The Sun, the broadcasting regulator received five complaints after the 22-year-old interrogated Lucie following her first date with Tommy.

“We will assess these complaints under our broadcasting rules but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate,” a spokesperson for Ofcom stated.
