From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The singer confirmed she was expecting her first child with her fiancé on Thursday.
Perry shared the news via the music video for her new single “Never Worn White”.
At the end of the film, the 35-year-old is shown cradling a baby bump.
Following the music video’s release, the musician took part in an Instagram Live video with her 90.5m followers, in which she confirmed that she is pregnant.
Now, in an interview with SiriusXM’s Mikey Piff, Perry has said the pregnancy was not an “accident”.
“I’m so grateful for everything that I have been able to do and achieve and all the goals that I’ve been kind of able to check off my list and dreams and the life I’ve lived thus far,” she said.
“And I think I’ve just been trying to create this space in my own life where I’m not running myself too ragged and creating space for something new to happen like this.
“And I think we were both looking forward to this new interval of life and sharing this, so, that’s kind of how it happens, you know?”
The singer explained that she had planned to share the news with her parents by printing it on the label of a bottle of wine she was bringing to their house for dinner but that her mother, Mary, spotted the label beforehand.
“She just came over and was looking at my wine, which she never does, and she’s like, ‘What is this?!”’ Perry said.
“And that’s how it happened. And I was like, ‘Well, you ruined the surprise,’ but I guess moms have intuition unlike any other right?”
Perry added that she has no plans to put her career on hold as she embarks on motherhood.
“I’m sure it will be an untraditional way, but look, I’m joining the force of working moms out there.
“And that is a very strong force. And I love what I do and it doesn’t feel like work and it brings me so much joy, so I just want to continue that state of joy.”
The interview comes after reports circulated the Perry and Bloom have postponed their wedding in Japan due to fears around the coronavirus outbreak.
A source told People: “They were both so elated that all the wedding details were finally coming together, but they are hitting pause because of coronavirus.”
To date, there are 116 cases of coronavirus in the UK and more than 96,000 cases worldwide, with 331 in Japan.
