From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhowre have shared a series of unseen snaps from their Moroccan wedding ceremony – and the newlyweds couldn’t look more in love.

Posing for British Vogue’s special bridal cover on the day of their nuptials on 26 April, the couple are seen embracing one another in the Marrakech sunshine, having married hours earlier at the Ksar Char Bagh hotel.

For the special day, Elba wore a suit crafted by Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng while Dhowre chose a white, one-shoulder A-line gown that was custom-made by legendary bridal designer Vera Wang.

The two met in 2017 in Vancouver, where Elba had been filming the thriller The Mountain Between Us and according to the actor, it was “love at first sight”.

The Luther actor also told the publication that he and Dhowre have been “inseparable” since they met.

“You know, I’m 47 this year, been married and lived a full life before I even met Sabrina,” he added.

“Sabrina has deepened friendships with people I’ve known longer than [her], nurturing the best side of me to make me connect to my friends more.”

Of the wedding itself, Dhowre explained she wanted their guests to “leave remembering the importance of love”.

“Behind all the glitz and the flowers, that’s what matters,” the 29-year-old former model added.

The wedding is Elba’s third, having previously been married to Hanne Norgaard, with whom he had a daughter, Isan Elba, and then to Sonya Nicole Hamlin. Elba also shares a son, Winston Elba, with British makeup artist Naiyana Garth.
