Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In the world of dating apps, many of us are extremely fussy when scrolling mindlessly through potential suitors.

More often than not, it’s the most insignificant details that can determine whether you decide to give someone a go or give them the boot.

While everyone is unique in their preferences, adding certain types of photos to your online dating profile can greatly increase your chances of achieving matches.

Dating app Badoo recently conducted a survey of 5,000 of its users to find out what compels those looking for love (or lust) to swipe right.

As it turns out, the photos you decide to use to present yourself can make a huge difference to your success rate.

54 per cent of women would swipe left for a guy who’s included a photo of himself with an attractive woman.

It seems that women looking for a partner of the opposite sex are drawn to a man at one with nature, as 30 per cent would swipe right for picture of a man posing in the countryside.

Dogs are a big draw for all, with 29 per cent of women and 21 per cent of men swiping right for a profile picture that features a furry four-legged friend.

However, women and men apparently differ in opinion when it comes to gym selfies.

37 per cent of women would give a photo of a man in the gym a hard no, while 25 per cent of men are all for it.

If you feel like upping your swiping game, perhaps it would be a good idea to consider how you may come across to a stranger who only has a selection of photos on which to form an opinion.
