From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

De Armas, 32, and Affleck, 48, split around two weeks ago after almost a year together.
The same day that sources confirmed the breakup to People magazine, paparazzi images showed a masked man binning a lifesize cutout of de Armas outside Affleck's home.
Earlier this week, infamous viral Twitter fan account Ana de Armas Updates spotted that the actress's profile had been removed, though her Instagram still remains active.
Affleck and de Armas first met while filming Deep Water in 2019, in which they play a married couple.
They were first spotted in public together in March last year when they holidayed in Havana, Cuba.
Affleck's younger brother Casey said last month that he was unsure if their split was for good.
He told Entertainment Tonight: "I can't even really say if they have totally broken up for good or whatever. I would leave that to them to speak to."
He added: "My advice to them would be, 'Yes, think long and hard about it, because quarantine is not fun if you're single’."
Ben Affleck was famously married to actress Jennifer Garner for over a decade, and the pair have three children together. Affleck has been open about how his struggles with alcohol abuse affected his marriage.
In February last year, shortly before he and de Armas were first seen out together, Affleck described the divorce as his "biggest regret".
"The biggest regret of my life is this divorce," he told The New York Times.
"Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It's just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing."
In 2016, Jennifer Garner spoke openly about the couple’s split for the first time, telling Vanity Fair Affleck is a “complicated guy”.
She said: "He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous.
"He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
Ana de Armas's representative did not immediately respond to The Independent's request for comment.
