Former Love Island contestant Wes Nelson has revealed producers of the show would tell him to take his top off while in the villa.
Nelson, who appeared on the ITV reality television programme in 2018, provided an insight into what goes on behind the scenes on Love Island while appearing on the Capital FM radio breakfast show on Wednesday morning.
When asked by radio presenter Roman Kemp why the Islanders are more often than not captured on camera topless or in swimwear, Nelson stated that it’s “not coincidence”.
“I used to try and go out in a hoodie and heavily clothed in the morning because sometimes it is a bit chilly, but yeah you’d have to take that off,” the 21-year-old said.
Nelson explained that sometimes the contestants like to relax in the shade because it’s “roasting hot”.
However, the television personality added that the shade can be “quite cold”, which is why he would attempt to wear another layer.
“So me and Josh [Denzel] used to run out all the time in our hoodies, and they’d be like, ‘Wes, take that off. Take it off’.” Nelson said.
During his interview with Capital FM, Nelson also spoke about what goes on when the contestants are given a day off.
The former Dancing on Ice star said he was given his first day off three weeks into the show, adding that he and his fellow Islanders were taken to a “holding villa”.
“They monitor everything, they make sure you’re not having any saucy chats,” Nelson said.
“But it’s quite nice to not have any drama and have chat chats, it’s nice to just chill.”
On Tuesday, ITV announced that Love Island contestant Sherif Lanre had been removed from this year’s series for “breaking rules”.
“After breaking the villa rules, Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa,” a spokesperson for the reality television series stated.
Lanre added: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.”
The reason for Lanre’s departure has not yet been revealed.
