From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 21-year-old model explained that since leaving the villa earlier this month, he has received abuse that is “as worse as you can imagine”, explaining that he’s been inundated with racist comments and threats to him and his family.
“I’ve had it all. And it’s still happening today. Daily,” Williams told Fubar Radio on Thursday.
“When it’s racist and it’s threats and you have to get the police involved that’s next level. And it got to that extent,” the reality TV star continued.
“I’m going to bed at night, I go on my phone like everybody else does, and you see some of the people saying they’re going to come and kill me or, ‘You’re a horrible sick f***’.”
While Williams said that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, “there’s never an excuse for that kind of stuff,” describing it as “horrible”.
While on the show, Williams disgruntled viewers by choosing to dump his partner Yewande Biala for fellow islander Arabella Chi. He then coupled up with another contestant, Jourdan Riane, with whom he left the programme.
But Williams is not the only Love Island star to have received death threats since appearing on the show.
In July last year, former islanders spoke on the Victoria Derbyshire show about receiving threats from viewers. Season two contestant Tina Stinnes recalled how she had messages from people wanting to throw acid in her face.
Meanwhile, former contestant Eyal Booker’s older brother revealed how his family had been inundated with “disgusting death threats” after scenes aired showing his brother kissing fellow contestant Megan Barton-Hanson.
Speaking to Heart, Ariel Booker said he found the messages regarding his brother “absurd”.
Booker added: “I understand it all comes with reality TV but I think sending someone death threats for kissing a girl in front of someone else is ridiculous.”
