Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The biannual New York Gift Fair opens its doors on January 29; the fair provides insight into the latest products, innovative designs and homeware trends.
Held every year in January and August, the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) attracts nearly 3,000 exhibitors and 35,000 attendees from around the world.
The show is divided into 13 subcategories covering a broad range of products including Accent on Design -- innovative design-led merchandise from fresh talent; At Home - contemporary and traditional indoor and outdoor home furnishings; Baby & Child -- innovative and functional products for young children; and Details -- jewelry, handbags and other fashion accessories.
One of the highlights of the NYIGF is the awards section. As well as honoring innovative design and new products, the organizers of the NYIGF also reward companies that have created environmentally friendly or "green" products with the Eco Choice Awards.
Previous winners of the Eco Choice Awards include the Emerson House -- a solar powered doll house - from Brinca Dada, Kitchen Basics - a line of kitchen utensils made from sustainable material by Bambu - and Mova Globe -- a globe powered by solar energy from Chinese company Turtle Tech Designs.
Sustainability and environmental consciousness will also be awarded at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany (February 3-8), where the Toy Awards will present one exhibitor with the Toy Awards Special Award to recognize the promotion of environmental awareness through play.
For those unable to attend, the NYIGF can be followed online via Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/nyigf), YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/nyigf) and Twitter (@nyigf).
