Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The fourth annual Leicester Comedy Festival runs from 7-16 February. This year's headliners include the 1996 Perrier Award winner, Dylan Moran, American Queen of Comedy, Sandra Bernhard, the marvellous Bill Bailey, the Comedy Store Players and many more. With more than 130 shows spread over the 10 days, plus workshops for aspiring comics, this year's festival will be bigger than Demis Roussos and Phil Jupitus put together.

We have a great first prize on offer which will ensure that the lucky winners will experience the full festival flavour. It includes three nights' bed and breakfast for two in the centre of the city at the Jarvis Grand Hotel; tickets for Jack Dee on Thursday 13 February and the Pink Comedy Club on 14 February, plus spending money for other expenses. Midland Mainline, the Main Festival Sponsor, and operator of Intercity trains between South Yorkshire, the East Midlands and London, will provide free return transport to Leicester.

Ten runners up will win a festival T-shirt, courtesy of Next plc, the main community sponsor of the festival. To enter, send your details on a postcard, by 6 February, to: Eye/Leicester Comedy Festival Offer, Leicester Promotions Ltd, 7-9 Every Street, Leicester, LE1 6AG. Winners will be picked from the postbag at random.

For more information or a brochure call the Festival Hotline on 0891 100 702 or visit the Festival website at http://www. Leicestermercury.co.uk/comedy.html
