Lana Del Rey goes au naturel for cover shoot

Posting the picture on Instagram, she wrote, ‘Just lip gloss’

American pop star Lana Del Rey showed off a stripped back, au naturel look in a recent cover shoot.

The 35-year-old singer posted a picture of herself on Instagram as the cover star of the April 2021 edition of Rolling Stone Germany.

It comes after the singer-songwriter released her seventh studio album, Chemtrails Over The Country Club, on 19 March.

In the image, Del Rey poses bathed in sunlight with her eyes closed. Her hair is tied up and she wears a brown checked flannel shirt and beige neck scarf, with pared-back make-up.

The singer also posted another image shortly after, styled in the same outfit.

She captioned the picture: “Just lip gloss. This was me on set for my sister as a gaffer/prop/ costume light technician, For her new music video coming out. You’d be surprised what I can do!”

Based on the “just lip gloss” portion of the caption, many of her 18.7 million Instagram followers have speculated that she was alluding to going make-up free for the Rolling Stone cover.

On Twitter, the star confirmed that the cover photo had been taken while she worked on set. She also tagged Rolling Stone Germany in the post.

Posting the two images side by side, she wrote: “Rolling Stone Germany- Photos of me working on set with my sister while I’m not working on music. Hard work brings me so much happiness. Especially when it’s for her”

The singer previously caused controversy after wearing a mesh face mask to a meet-and-greet in October during the coronavirus pandemic.

Following backlash over how effective a mesh mask is at reducing transmission of the virus, Lana Del Rey addressed critics, writing on Twitter: “ The mask had plastic on the inside. They’re commonly sewn in by stylists these days.”
