Lady Gaga leaves Critics' Choice Awards early to 'say goodbye' to her dying horse

'I will never forget the moments we shared'

Lady Gaga rushed from the Critics’ Choice Awards after winning two prizes to “say goodbye” to her dying horse.

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, took home the Best Actress award for her role in A Star Is Born, sharing the honour with Glenn Close for her performance in The Wife.

She also picked up the award for Best Original Song for "Shallow", which was performed by herself and co-star Bradley Cooper in the film.

However, the star was unable to celebrate for long, instead having to leave to be with her horse, Arabella.

After breaking down in tears on stage while accepting the acting award, Gaga posted an emotional tribute on Instagram and Twitter to her “angel”, who she said will “forever be a part of me”.

“I am so honoured and blessed to have won both Best Song and Best Actress alongside Glenn Close this evening,” she wrote alongside a picture of herself riding Arabella.

“My heart is exploding with pride. But it saddens me to say that just after the show I learned that my dear angel of a horse, Arabella is dying. I am rushing to her now to say goodbye.

“Our souls and spirits were one. When she was in pain, so was I. I will never forget the moments we shared. Long hikes together, galloping through the canyons. Feeding her cookies.

She continued: “She will forever be a part of me. I am so very sad. But I wish for your pain to end, and the gates of heaven to open for you.

“I love you. Girl, where do you think you’re goin?”

Fans were quick to offer messages of support to the actor.

“Arabella will forever be in our hearts stay strong mama, I love you,” one person wrote.

Another added: “Now she's running free and happy, giving her love to you in your soul.”

During her acceptance speech for Best Actress, Gaga thanked co-star Cooper for being a "magical human being" and dedicated the prize to “all people who have suffered from alcoholism and addiction or whoever watched their love ones suffer”.

“I wanted nothing more than to show the truth and the power of this very heartbreaking dynamic,” she said.

“This is the true star of the film, the true star of the film is not me. It’s bravery and perseverance."
