From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In 2018, Forbes predicted Jenner would become the world’s youngest “self-made billionaire” – a title that many readers criticised, pointing out that the 21-year-old comes from a wealthy famous family.
Now, the mother-of-one is defending the label, insisting that “the self-made things is true” in a new interview for Paper Magazine’s “Transformation” issue.
Jenner claims that she “spent every last dime” she had to start Kylie Cosmetics “not even knowing if it would be successful”.
The reality star launched the brand in 2016 following a successful international launch of a liquid lipstick and liner duo, called the Kylie Lip Kit.
Now, Kylie Cosmetics is estimated to be worth $900m (£690m).
Jenner also revealed that her parents – Kris and Caitlyn Jenner – “cut her off at the age of 15”.
“My parents told me I needed to make my own money, it’s time to learn how to save and spend your own money, stuff like that,” she said.
While Jenner insists her wealth is all self-made, she does acknowledge that her family’s status gave Kylie Cosmetics a running start.
Jenner’s older sibling, Kim Kardashian West, 37, helped shoot the Kardashian-Jenner clan to fame with the inception of their reality show, Keeping up with the Kardashians in 2007.
“I had such a huge platform, I had so many followers already and I had so many people watching me,” Jenner explained.
“What I'm trying to say is I did have a platform, but none of my money is inherited.”
In the interview, Jenner also spoke openly about her daughter Stormi after managing to successfully avoid the media during most of her pregnancy in 2017.
The 21-year-old said she always want to be a young mother and that having a child has changed her life for the better.
“It's genuinely what I wanted... to be a young mom,“ Jenner said.
“I thought, 'This I what I want to do, and if people accept it or don't accept it then I'm okay with every outcome'."
