Adele, Andy Murray and a secret ingredient
Bonjour mes amis! Here's Kronenbourg 1664's round up of the stand out watercooler moments from the last seven days. A bientôt!
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Carbonara catastrophe
Quel sacrilège culinaire! People en Italie are furious with La belle Nigella because her new spaghetti carbonara recipe includes nutmeg and a lavish dollop of cream. Maybe they’d be happier with a secret ingredient suggestion of our own: a healthy splash of our favourite French bière.
Sinking feeling
Zut alors, how the mighty have fallen! The viewing figure for a recent Blue Peter episode was recorded at precisely zero. Admittedly it was a repeat. Then again, some of us remember a time when “And here’s one we made earlier” had more appeal.
Superfan sadness
Les commiserations to Adele superfan Lori Shortall, a Canadian music teacher who spent £6,000 and travelled 18,000 miles to attend three concerts the singer had to cancel at the last moment. We wish only the best for you, Lori. And maybe you should swap Hometown Glory for our glorious hometown. Forget Adele and vacance en Alsace instead – you’ll find plenty to sing about there.
Merry Murray
Pas de surprise that Andy Murray is his usual sunny self at Wimbledon despite that dodgy hip. He and wife Kim Sears are expecting their second child. Fingers crossed the two-time champion keeps his tally of Wimbledon trophies one ahead of his offspring by completing le hat-trick on Sunday week. We’ll raise a glass to that, non?
Maison manners
Le 10 worst social crimes a house guest can commit have been revealed - and we wouldn’t want to see any of them dans our maison. But while guests not taking their shoes off when they walk in was seen as très bad, there’s something we hate more: visitors who bring bière that’s not as suprême as the one filling our fridge.
