From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kristen Bell has won widespread praise for her response to a fan’s comment on her Instagram post.
The actor, best known for her roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Couples Retreat and Veronica Mars, posted a picture of her look for the Emmys which was duly flooded with likes and comments from her adoring fans.
One comment in particular, however, caught Bell’s eye.
A young Australian woman called Charmaine wrote: “So mother f***ing beautiful. U are stunning unlike me [sic].”
With 7.5 million followers on Instagram and over 9,000 comments on the picture, Bell was, presumably, unlikely even to see Charmaine’s comment.
But not only did she see the comment, but she replied too.
“Gurl dont u dare [sic],” the actor wrote. “You got one time on this planet - dont waste time being negative. You deserve all the love in the world. And I think your face is beautiful AF. Dont you dare tell me I’m wrong [sic].”
Bell went on to recommend Charmaine follow Love Warrior author Glennon Doyle and read her book.
“Smile more, because u are alive and wonderful. And loved. Xo [sic],” she added.
Many people saw Bell’s message and shared it on Twitter.
“Kristen Bell didn’t have to reply, but she damn well did,” wrote one Twitter user.
“She makes the world a better place,” added another.
And back on Bell’s Instagram, many fans were amazed by her response.
“You are amazing!” wrote one. “Glad you help your fans, especially the young girls who look up to you so much.”
