Kelly Ripa has defended herself and co-host Ryan Seacrest after a viewer criticised their “lack of personal grooming” on their morning talk-show.
On Monday, Ripa shared a video promoting the fall return of Live with Kelly and Ryan that shows the two hosts waking up, brushing their teeth and getting dressed ahead of the show.
While most of Ripa’s followers expressed their excitement over the upcoming season, one fan took the opportunity to share his “only issue” with the show, which has been filmed remotely as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“The only issue I have with this show (and I watch daily since I am at home nowadays) is the lack of personal grooming,” he wrote. “I mean, it’s a nationally televised show. And I have to get dressed for every Zoom work call so why can’t you guys.”
The comment prompted a response from Ripa, who said: “We are dressed. FCC (Federal Communications Commission) rules, not mine.”
In response, the viewer amended his comment, explaining that he meant “properly dressed”.
“I’ll bring it up at the next meeting,” Ripa sarcastically responded.
The exchange prompted other viewers to also come to Ripa and Seacrest’s defence.
“Kelly, loved your reply. I’m glad you’re bringing us the show during these trying times,” one person wrote.
Another said: “There’s no glam squad like it was before, but they’re not rolling out in pyjamas daily.
Throughout the quarantine, Ripa has been open about what it’s been like to work from home. In May, she joked with her co-host on-air after realising that she still had clips in her hair when she went live.
“I’m just a girl trying to put on a TV show through the computer,” Ripa joked after removing the clips.
