Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock after nearly seven years of marriage.

The Since You’ve Been Gone singer filed on 4 June in Los Angeles, California, according to documents obtained by The Blast.

Clarkson and Blackstock have been married since 2013, and share two children together, daughter River Rose, five, and son Remington Alexander, four.

The pair first met at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006 when Clarkson was rehearsing with Rascal Flatts, according to E! News. At the time, Blackstock was the band’s tour manager.

However, the couple didn’t become romantically involved until six years later.

In December 2012, after 10 months of dating, Clarkson announced their engagement on Twitter, writing: “I'M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y'all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever.”

The news of the couple’s divorce comes after it was reported in April that the American Idol winner had put their home up for sale.

Previously, Clarkson described Blackstock as someone she was “truly passionate about”.

“When I met Brandon, I wasn’t looking for a friend. I have a lot of great friends! I was looking for a lover,” the 38-year-old told Redbook. “I had never found someone I was truly passionate about, who I wanted to stay in bed with all day.

“The fact that I did, well…I was going to latch on and take advantage of that."

As of now, Clarkson has not publicly acknowledged the divorce.
