From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The five-bedroom property is located in Malvern, South Australia and according to a listing on realestate.com.au, is spread over 3,193 square metres.
The fitness star’s former home also features a tennis court, a solar-heated swimming pool and a self-contained studio.
The property also boasts four bathrooms, a five-car garage and a state-of-the-art security system.
Fans of Itsines will recognise photographs of the property online from the 29-year-old’s Instagram, where she regularly posted pictures of herself working out at home.
The home features an open-plan living area complete with built-in shelves and a kitchen island.
There are also two dining rooms and two “master suites”.
Itsines and Pearce announced their split last month after eight years together.
The couple have a 17-month-old daughter together named Arna.
“Tobi and I have come to the difficult decision to separate as a couple,” the fitness entrepreneur wrote in an Instagram post.
“We will always be family, and remain good friends and devoted parents to Arna.”
The couple worked together to build Itsines’ fitness empire, which is said to be worth $696m (£523m).
“We have grown up together in Adelaide, sharing a lifetime of experiences and special memories from moving into our first apartment and starting SWEAT from our lounge room to becoming parents to our beautiful daughter,” Itsines’ post continued.
She added that her and Pearce remain friends and will continue to co-parent Arna and run their business ventures together.
“Thank you for your support and kindness during this time,” she concluded.
