Katharine McPhee and David Foster have welcomed their first child together, a son.
Speaking to People, a representative for McPhee confirmed that she had given birth to a “healthy baby boy” and that “Mom, Dad and son are all doing wonderfully”.
As of now, neither McPhee, 36, nor Foster, 71, have shared additional details regarding their son’s birth.
The couple, who first met in 2006 on American Idol when Foster mentored McPhee, tied the knot in 2019.
Following their wedding, the musician, who has been married four times previously and is also father to five adult children, reflected on his and McPhee’s age difference in an interview with USAToday, during which he said that their 35-year gap won’t “bring us down”.
“Well, we have that musical connection,” Foster said. “Look, we have haters on social media, and there’s not a person around that’s not going to make some comment about the age difference.
“But there are so many things that can bring a marriage down: It can be financial, it can be children, it can be geography, it can be infidelity. And one of them is age difference, but that’s our only problem. Everything else is in line, so it’s not going to bring us down.”
The Smash star first hinted at her pregnancy in October, when she wrote on Instagram that she would not be able to enjoy a PR gift she had received from Aperol Spritz, according to People.
She later revealed the sex of her unborn child during an appearance on the Women on Top podcast hosted by Roxy Manning and Tammin Sursok, where she said that she would be teaching her son “different things” than she would have taught a daughter.
“Now that I am having a boy, there are different things I need to worry about to teach him versus the things I would be thinking about with a girl,” she said, according to People. “But it’s kind of refreshing because I feel like I don’t need to think about those societal ‘this is the way you look.’ I think men have different issues and different things to worry about.”
