Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kate Upton has launched a social media campaign designed to help empower others and spread positivity.

On Thursday, the 27-year-old model shared a series of posts on Twitter and Instagram announcing the launch of the #ShareStrong campaign, writing: “I want to open the conversation and give all people a platform to talk about all the struggles and strengths we experience.

“That’s why I created #ShareStrong – a space where we all can be part of the conversation, empower one another, and radiate positivity.”

The Other Woman actor went on to encourage her fans to join the conversation and share what makes them strong using the hashtag.

In a separate post, Upton shared a video of her playing with her daughter Genevieve, citing the eight-month-old as her main motivation in life.

“I’m strong for my daughter, I want her to feel comfortable to radiate strength, power and confidence,” Upton captioned the post.

“I realise that starts with me. Now I encourage you to join the conversation and share why you’re strong. #ShareStrong.”

Within a matter of hours of launching the campaign, the hashtag went viral with hundreds of people posting their own #ShareStrong stories on social media.

A number of Upton’s celebrity friends also joined in, including The Sinner actor Jessica Biel who shared a makeup-free selfie on Instagram for the cause.

“Spreading some self love today with zero filter and zero makeup for my girl @KateUpton,” Biel wrote.

“She’s on a mission to encourage everyone to feel strong and love themselves *as they are*... and I’m so honoured to help spread that message.”

Biel concluded her message by asking followers to “take a second to show the real you” and tag someone that they admire in the post.

Model Behati Prinsloo, who is married to Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, also joined in, sharing a rare photograph of herself with her two young daughters on Instagram.

“Here’s to the sleepless nights, bleeding nipples, crying, laughing, the highest of highs and lowest of lows and everything in between,” Prinsloo wrote in the caption.

“I won’t change a single thing, being mum to Dusty and Gio keeps me strong, motivated and empowered. This is my #sharestrong thanks @kateuptonfor starting this.”

Other high-profile names that have shared their own stories include Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher, musician Antionette Costa and fellow Sports Illustrated model Tanaye White.
