Remember when Kanye West made the internet go into a meltdown after he wore Yeezy slides that appeared to be too small for him?

After a whole week of being mocked online, the rapper has finally broken his silence and has explained his reasoning behind wearing them.

He raised a few eyebrows when he wore the ill-fitting sandals at rapper 2 Chainz' wedding in Miami at the Versace Mansion last week.

The 41-year-old fashion designer styled the shoes with a neo-mint Louis Vuitton suit while his wife, Kim Kardashian-West, wore a fluorescent figure-hugging dress.

And while you'd think Kim's look would've stolen the show it was in fact Kanye who attracted the attention.

But it turns out he didn't borrow their daughter North's slippers after all.

Kanye claimed on Twitter that he in fact took inspiration from Japanese footwear.

He shared an illustration of a pair of wooden sandals, defending the shoes saying it is "the Japanese way".

The illustration featured two images of Japanese footwear and an explanation that the wearer's heel should extend 1-2cm off the back of the sole.

While Kanye's shoes aren't wooden like traditional Japanese footwear shown in the pictures, eagle-eyed Twitter users continued to mock the rapper and were quick to point out that his foot extended further than 2cm off the back of his shoes.

One wrote: "Boy you had like 3 inches hanging off at 2 chainz wedding don't lie."

While another pointed out: "#KanyeWest shoes that he wore to 2Chains wedding is exactly what I look like when I borrow my mums slippers to nip out to the garden to get something quickly..."

Kanye is no stranger to controversy either. Earlier this year he was mocked online for releasing images of the prototype, which users compared to gummy sweets and kitchen sponges.
