A video of Vice President Kamala Harris jogging up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with her Secret Service agents in tow has gone viral on social media, where people have shared their enjoyment over the surprise spotting.

The clip, which sees the vice president exercising along with her husband Doug Emhoff and multiple Secret Service agents, was first shared over the weekend by a fellow runner.

“It was amazing running into Madam @VP during our five-miler this morning!” Bobby Tran wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself, his girlfriend, and the vice president, explaining that he and his girlfriend had gone to view artist Simon Berger's "Glass Ceiling Breaker" portrait of Ms Harris only to end up seeing her in person.

“We checked out the @TheGlassCeilingBreaker display dedicated to her then noticed that she and @SecondGentleman were actually running steps at the Lincoln Memorial behind us," he continued, adding: "I also loved how [Mr Emhoff] waited atop the steps to give her a supportive [high five]  too!"

In addition to the selfie, and other photos taken of the vice president’s public workout, Tran shared the now-viral video of Ms Harris jogging down the steps as her Secret Service agents follow along, before turning around and jogging back up towards the Lincoln Memorial, where she then high-fived second gentleman Emhoff.

"We turned around and there she was, running the steps, and being one with the community," Tran told Insider of the run-in. "As we were getting closer, I also noticed somebody that appeared to be Doug Emhoff, too. It wasn't until later when I looked over the video that I noticed the second gentleman at the top, who paused to give her a high five as she finished her run.

“I thought that was the coolest thing to be so supportive of each other out there.

The clip was later shared on Twitter, where it has since been viewed more than 4m times, by user @sammycakez_, who captioned it: “Get you a VP who works hard for the American people and makes time to get a workout in."

The video prompted supportive responses on the platform, where many praised Ms Harris for the display of athleticism.

“She’s so inspiring. I love VP Kamala Harris,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “I love every single thing about this.”

“She is so badass,” someone else wrote.

Others joked about the Secret Service agents who joined in on the workout despite wearing suits and dress shoes, with some suggesting they will soon be the “fittest in the agency”.

“Secret Service is wishing for some Nikes,” one person joked.

Ms Harris previously revealed that she exercises every single morning because it’s the “best way to start the day”.

“I work out every morning, regardless of how much sleep I’ve had,” she told former president Barack Obama in September 2020. “It’s just the best way to start the day.”

And, according to Mr Emhoff, the habit has rubbed off on him, with the second gentleman previously revealing that he is in “way better shape now than I was 10 years ago”.

“Every morning [she] works out, by hook or by crook,” he told Men’s Health of his wife’s dedication to exercising. “It got me into the same groove she’s in. I’m in way better shape now than I was 10 years ago.”
