From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The nation's PE teacher Joe Wicks has taken a tumble while hosting his livestreamed PE class, headbutting his ceiling pitch while dressed as the Honey Monster.

The 34-year-old told fans he headbutted the ceiling and dented the roof after sliding into the sloping wall while teaching his online PE class.

The fitness influencer donned a Honey Monster costume for "fancy dress Friday" on 22 January but lost his balance after sliding across his smooth flooring in his fluffy orange shoes.

While doing an exercise called the ‘silly billy’, which involved sliding across the floor, Wicks slid too far and careered into the ceiling wall headfirst.

He shouted: "Ah there's a roof there! There's a pitch roof. I've cracked my ceiling!"

The star clutched his head in pain after the accident but, fortunately, appeared unscathed and was able to complete the workout.

Wicks relaunched his livestream PE lessons for kids for the third national lockdown, after originally providing the free online exercise sessions in the national lockdown last year.

The star hosts PE With Joe on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on his YouTube channel The Body Coach TV.

Last year, one of Wicks's classes earned him a Guiness World Record for the most viewers for a workout live stream on YouTube. On March 24 2020, almost a million people streamed his class.

In October, the 34-year-old was made an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list, after raising £580,000 for the NHS through his online workouts.

Sharing the news earlier this month that his classes were returning, the star said: "Please please share this with as many families as you can and let your schools know so they can notify the parents ASAP and we can get as many young children taking part.

“This is so important for our children’s emotional and mental health.”
