Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. One of the nicer things about winter is being able to wear cosy knitted things, but this doesn't have to mean hiding your body under layers of bulky jumpers. The knitwear this winter follows the dictates of the last two - slim and ladylike with minimal detailing. If you're into Pat Butcher off-the-shoulder appliqued specials you will hate it, but if you yearn for the laissez-faire style of Hepburn or Kelly you will love the little cardigans and short-sleeved sweaters in spring colours (pink, lemon, white and camel) which bring a glow to a winter outfit. The emphasis is on quality - cashmere and good-quality lambswool - and fit as this is not a look to wear two sizes too big. Burberrys does some fabulous cashmere twinsets in loads of colours, and Marks & Spencer excels itself every year in all things woolly. Cheap knitwear is a false economy - after the first wash it will bobble, lose its shape, and look like something that should be lining the cat's basket. Keep some cedarwood shavings (from The Body Shop) or chestnuts (yes really) among your woollens to keep the moths at bay.
