Stacey Solomon has been praised for speaking openly about the excess hair she's noticed on her stomach since becoming pregnant with her third child.

On Thursday, the Loose Women presenter shared a photo of her pregnant stomach on Instagram.

In the picture, a few dark hairs are visible around her belly button.

"I think I'm pregnant with a Furby," the former X Factor contestant wrote in the caption on the social media platform.

"I need to know... did anyone else's belly just suddenly become covered in fur?"

Solomon continued, explaining that while she's always had a "snail trail" down the centre of her stomach, the appearance of blonde hairs and a few "wiry black ones" has come as a surprise.

"I'm not upset by it one bit, I've always loved my furrier than most body, I'm just so fascinated as to why this happens?" the 29-year-old stated.

Several people commended Solomon for her candid post, some of whom shared their own personal experiences of growing excess body hair during pregnancy.

"This is lovely to see as I had a hairy tummy when I was pregnant," one Instagram user commented.

"I got a hairy tum but only when pregnant with my daughter, didn't get it with my son," another added.

Several people remarked that the hair growth may be due to "hormones".

"The hormone changes in pregnancy may cause the hair on your head and body to grow or become thicker," the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG) outlines.

"Sometimes women grow hair in areas where they do not normally have hair, such as the face, chest, abdomen, and arms."

According to the ACOG, a mother's hair usually returns to normal around six months after childbirth.

Solomon is expecting her first child with her partner, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here, NOW! presenter Joe Swash.
