At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have announced the birth of their first child together, a baby girl named Daisy Dove Bloom.
The announcement was made on behalf of the couple by Unicef, the United Nations Children’s Fund, for which Perry and Bloom are Goodwill Ambassadors.
The organisation shared a black-and-white photograph of the couple holding hands with their newborn daughter, a decorative daisy printed on Perry’s thumbnail in honour of her child.
The post’s caption began with a congratulatory message for the couple, which read: “Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and @OrlandoBloom’s new bundle of joy.”
The rest of the caption featured a statement from Perry and Bloom, in which the engaged couple expressed their hope that people will donate towards Unicef in honour of Daisy’s birth.
“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” the singer and actor told Unicef.
“But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was.”
The couple stated that across the globe, various communities “are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers”, explaining that every 11 seconds, “a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes”.
“Since Covid-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases,” they said.
“As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathise with struggling parents now more than ever.”
Perry and Bloom wrote that as Goodwill Ambassadors for Unicef, they understand that the organisation “is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare”.
“In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s [Daisy Dove Bloom’s] arrival,” they said.
“By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your heart can bloom with generosity.”
On the Unicef website, a page has been set up in celebration of Daisy’s birth, with a request that members of the public donate to Unicef either on a one-time or monthly basis.
Bloom and Perry reposted the birth announcement on their personal Instagram profiles, with the couple receiving a flurry of celebratory messages.
“Yay!!! Congratulations so happy for you guys,” commented Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.
“DAISSSSYYYY!!!!! WELCOME!!!! And Love to both Mama and Papa,” stated actor Justin Theroux.
Daisy is Perry’s first child and Bloom’s second.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star has a nine-year-old son, Flynn Christopher Bloom, who he shares with his ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr.
