From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Katy Perry has praised her "incredible" fiancé Orlando Bloom while speaking to fans about becoming a mother.

The singer said that daughter Daisy had "changed my life" and thanked her partner for his support.

Unicef (for which Perry and Bloom are Goodwill Ambassadors) announced the birth of Daisy Dove Bloom in August last year.

During an Instagram Live on Thursday 28 January, Perry spoke about what it's like being a new mother, and expressed gratitude for her partner.

She said: "I have an incredible partner who supports me and lifts me up and he's a great guy."

The 36-year-old admitted she has far less time than she did before having Daisy and said that she had to "create space" for her daughter.

She said: "[Daisy] has changed my life and still continues to change my life. I created space for her and therefore didn't have the extra time that I have had in the past 35 years, and so I had to create space and I'm glad I did.

"I think you realise that when you become a mother you just have to focus on being a mom and it's not because you don't love other people – you just want to be a great mom and a lot of stuff falls away when you become a mom.

"It is the best job in the world and I highly recommend it, when you're ready."

The star also spoke about how she looks after her mental wellbeing, and the "routines" that have helped her.

She said: "I have been through a very public process with my own journey on mental wellness. I've done so many things like yoga and meditation and now chanting has really changed my mental wavelength, just having those little routines and rituals has really changed the game for me."

Perry got engaged to Bloom, 44, on Valentine's Day in 2019 after they reconciled in 2018 following almost a year apart.

The singer was previously married to comedian Russell Brand for 14 months, before the pair split in 2011.
