From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

A man decided it was time for a change when he looked back at a video of his proposal to his girlfriend and felt disappointed with what he saw.

Marcus 'Buzz' Busbee, 30, lost 35 lbs over two months.

Despite being categorised as obese on the BMI scale, Buzz never thought his weight was an issue until he watched back the video of the day he proposed to his fiancée.

"Being overwhelmed by the almost immediate planning of the wedding I put my weight in the back of my mind for 2 months, and ended up gaining more weight," he told The Independent.

"I watched the engagement video again at the end of October and knew I needed to change."

The first change that needed to be made was his choice of drink. Previously he would be drinking two Monster energy drinks and four Dr. Peppers a day. Before, water was normally his last resort; he now drinks about four and a half litres of water a day.

He rerouted his grocery shopping tips, only visiting the aisles with fresh vegetables and lean meats and avoiding bread as much as he can.

Buzz said: "Drinking a gallon of water a day, keeps me flushed out, and full throughout the day.

"So far I have done zero exercising. None. Only diet based, and I've lost 35 pounds in two months. I still have more to go, but I already feel different. I look younger, I stand up straighter, I feel better about myself.

"If I had to say one thing motivated me it would be my fiancée, Andrea. She has never pressured me to lose weight, and has never complained that I gained weight. I want to look good in our wedding photos!"
