GUIDELINES on the role of diet in cancer treatment, published by the Bristol Cancer Self Help Centre, say that vitamin and mineral supplements and a wholefood diet can be used to slow down the disease, stimulate the immune function and reduce the side-effects of treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Foods to avoid include red meat, sugar, salt, caffeine, additives, processed products, dairy and hydrogenated fats.
