MANY patients would be better off buying drugs over the counter than paying the pounds 4.25 prescription charge, the Drugs and Therapeutics Bulletin points out. The bulletin has produced a booklet for doctors listing all drugs available over the counter that cost less than the prescription charge. It says GPs should tell patients the generic (as opposed to the brand) names.
