Health Update: Burns blanket

A NEW blanket infused with special gel has been developed to treat patients with severe burns. According to its manufacturers, the Water-gel blanket has already been used successfully on a man in the US with third-degree burns to 90 per cent of his body.

The gel, which provides pain relief and limits burn progression by removing excess heat, is being evaluated by UK ambulance services, according to General Practitioner. The product is costly, however - a 6ft by 5ft blanket costs pounds 105.
