MANY new mothers suffer the 'blues' a few days after childbirth, but in about 10 per cent of cases the depression is severe and long-lasting. Researchers in the US have discovered that if mothers with a previous episode of post-natal depression are given anti-depressants within hours of giving birth, the risk can be greatly reduced.
