WAITERS and bartenders face a significantly increased risk of developing lung cancer because of the smoky environments they work in, according to a study at the University of California, Berkeley. Research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that levels of tobacco smoke were up to twice as high in restaurants and six times as high in bars compared with other workplaces. Service staff run a 50 per cent greater risk of developing lung cancer.
