From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Gwyneth Paltrow has wished her daughter, Apple, a happy 15th birthday with an Instagram tribute that includes a screenshot of a text conversation between the mother and daughter.

Alongside a photograph of Apple holding a pink rose in her mouth and looking away from the camera, the Goop founder wrote: “Happy 15th birthday my angel @applemartin I will never be able to put into words how much I love you.

“You are so strong and so good and so damn funny and sooooo gorgeous inside and out. I am the proudest mama ever. Feliz quinceañera mi vida!”

The 46-year-old actor also included a photo of a text message conversation between her and Apple in which the teenager sent her mother “options of Apple approved birthday posts”.

“Oh why thank you,” Paltrow wrote back, while teasing, “Don’t need to break the old Internet again, now do we?”

“Yeah let’s not,” Apple replied.

The conversation relates to a photograph that Paltrow posted of Apple in March without her “consent”.

Underneath a photo of the mother and daughter during a ski trip, in which Apple is wearing a pair of red goggles, the 15-year-old commented: “Mom we have discussed this. You may not post anything without my consent.

Paltrow replied, “You can't even see your face!”

Due to the fact Apple used the word “consent,” a number of followers criticised Paltrow for posting a photo of her daughter without her permission.

Paltrow’s birthday tribute to Apple comes just two days after the actor shared a photo of herself, her daughter and 13-year-old son Moses for Mother’s Day.

“Thank you to my two beauties for the best morning, and for my entire life,” Paltrow wrote in the caption.

“I love you both so much. I love all you mamas out there! Happy Mother’s Day!!”

Paltrow shares both children with her ex-husband Chris Martin, from whom she “consciously uncoupled” in 2013.

The actor remarried in 2018, tying the knot with TV writer Brad Falchuk in an intimate ceremony at her house in the Hamptons.
